Toyota HiLux Roadworthy Inspection in Brisbane

I inspected this Toyota HiLux at a workplace in Acacia Ridge today. Passed without any issues. No surprises there – HiLuxes are one of the most reliable vehicles I inspect.
The HiLux is the second most popular vehicle in Australia and I see them constantly. After thousands of HiLux inspections, I can say they’re about as close to a guaranteed pass as any car gets – provided the owner has done basic maintenance.
HiLuxes are nearly perfect for roadworthys
I don’t say this about many cars, but Toyota HiLuxes rarely fail roadworthy inspections. They’re well built, mechanically solid, and hold up to heavy use better than most vehicles on the road. The build quality is consistent across the range – from base model work utes to top spec SR5s.
What does fail on a HiLux?
When a HiLux does fail, it’s almost always one of these:
Tyres. This is the most common fail point. HiLuxes are heavy, they tow trailers and boats, and they carry loads in the tray. All of that wears tyres faster. Rear tyres in particular cop a beating on work utes that regularly carry heavy loads. Check all four tyres and the spare before booking. Minimum tread depth is 1.5mm.
Lights. A blown globe or a cracked lens is an easy fail on any car. HiLuxes that work on construction sites or in industrial areas sometimes cop stone chips to the lights. Walk around the vehicle and check every light before the inspection.
Leaking shock absorbers. This is less common on HiLuxes than on many other vehicles, but it does happen – particularly on HiLuxes that have been consistently overloaded or used hard off-road. A leaking shock is a guaranteed fail.
Rocker cover gasket leaks. On higher-kilometre HiLuxes, the rocker cover gasket can start weeping oil. A slight film of oil is usually acceptable, but active dripping onto the exhaust or ground is a fail.
Work utes - mobile inspection makes sense
A lot of HiLuxes are work vehicles. They’re parked at job sites, warehouses, and industrial areas during the day. Taking a work ute off the road for half a day to sit at a mechanic’s workshop costs the owner productivity and money.
This HiLux in Acacia Ridge was inspected in the car park of the owner’s workplace during business hours. No time off, no disruption, no driving to a workshop. I arrived, inspected the vehicle, sent the certificate by email, and the owner was back at his desk within minutes.
If your HiLux is your work vehicle and you need a roadworthy, book online and use your work address. The flexible option at $110 means I arrive during your work day and the ute doesn’t leave the car park.
Buying a used HiLux?
If you’re buying a used Toyota HiLux, you’re making one of the safer choices from a roadworthy perspective. They hold their value well, they’re mechanically reliable, and they rarely have hidden issues that catch buyers off guard.
That said, a roadworthy is only a basic safety check. It doesn’t tell you about engine condition, transmission health, how the vehicle has been used, or whether it’s been overloaded its entire life. If you’re spending serious money on a used HiLux – and they hold their value so you probably are – a pre-purchase inspection gives you a much fuller picture of what you’re buying. Local Roadworthys offers mobile pre-purchase inspections from $200.
